Food hygiene ratings
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is a national council and Food Standards Agency partnership initiative.
Each business is given a hygiene rating when it is inspected by a food safety officer from the Council. The hygiene rating tells you the standards of hygiene found at the time of the inspection.
A business is given one of six ratings, from a scale of five at the top, which means that the business was found to have very good hygiene standards, down to zero at the bottom, which means that urgent improvement is necessary.
The food hygiene rating is not a guide to food quality.

If you think your rating is wrong or unfair
Contact the food team to understand why the rating was given.
If you still think the rating is wrong or unfair, then business owners or managers can request an appeal, and can request a re-visit inspection.
