Bedworth Physical Activity Hub site plan

BAM Construction has now enclosed a limited area of Miners' Welfare Park, south of Bedworth Leisure Centre, to create the working area for the creation of the new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub.

With tree protection fencing now in place, the Coventry Road footpath entrance to the park near Rectory Drive has been closed for the duration of the works, but a temporary tarmac path instead runs into the park from only a few metres away at an entrance next to the Black Bank pub. The Leisure Centre access road off Coventry Road and footways are fully open.

The Leisure Centre, including car parking, will remain fully open until the new Activity Hub is opened for use.

The rest of the park also remains fully open, including the children’s play area, sports facilities, and the Mountain Bike Trails. The only facilities affected or withdrawn are some parts of the disc golf provision and the green gym equipment. The skatepark had also been withdrawn previously due to structural issues.

A new skatepark will be provided as part of the Activity Hub. Most of the green gym equipment will also be reinstalled later in the Activity Hub works and will become available again when the new Hub is opened.

Cllr Tim Jenkins, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Communities and Health, said:

“It is important to highlight that, while some unavoidable changes must be made to one park entrance point and to some pathways, the Leisure Centre and its car parking will remain fully open and accessible until the new Activity Hub is here.

“Similarly, the majority of Miners’ Welfare Park and all its key recreational facilities are fully open still and will remain so while the Activity Hub is under construction.

“Once the new Hub building itself opens, the adjacent park area will also reopen, including new paths, the new skatepark, the relocated Green Gym equipment, and a new children’s ‘Learn to Ride’ area.”
