A Nuneaton development offering affordable and modern social housing has been completed today.
Constructed by established house builder Jeakins Weir, the Byford Court development was undertaken following an evaluation by the Council, which identified that the existing bedsit accommodation was not popular with prospective tenants and therefore, difficult to let.
The existing accommodation was demolished, and the new development provides much needed family accommodation. It consists of 12 two, three and four-bedroom homes, which will see residents moving in from 1 October 2024.
The environmentally friendly homes come equipped with hydrogen-ready boilers, solar panels, showersave, and electric vehicle charging points to help with energy costs and ensure sustainability. Special bricks have also been installed within the homes themselves to encourage wildlife such as bats and birds to nest in the area.
Financial support was provided by Homes England to fund the project, Deborah Casey, Head of Affordable Housing Growth at Homes England, said:
“This development is a fantastic example of a partnership working to deliver high-quality, affordable housing that positively impacts not only the residents moving into these homes but the wider area too.
“Homes England is pleased to support the housing ambitions of Nuneaton and Bedworth in delivering homes to meet a growing need for affordable housing in the borough.”
Cllr Chris Watkins, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:
“I am very pleased to see the finalisation of this much-needed development.
“The homes look great and are packed full of high-tech, environmentally friendly features that mean they are very economical to run.
“I look forward to welcoming families to this neighbourhood, and I hope they enjoy their new homes.”
