Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is encouraging residents to see if they are entitled to claim pension credits.
The Council is taking steps to make sure people are informed about how to claim what could be a financial lifeline.
These steps include:
- Within our Landlord Service, events are being arranged for all Independent Living tenants, and General-Purpose tenants over the age of 65
- Information will be placed in the November Tenants Newsletter
- Prevention Officers are ensuring they are promoting this with their clients and the information provided by Bedworth, Rugby and Nuneaton Citizens Advice (BRANCAB) is also being promoted within the Partnership Forum
- Links to all current initiatives will be shared widely on Council social media platforms and website
- In recognition of the Healthy Ageing Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), the authority will work with all statutory and third sector partners to promote Pension Credit
- The council is supporting a partnership push with the Northern Warwickshire Financial Inclusion Partnership to reach as many people as possible who may be entitled to claim Pension Credit
- Liaison has been undertaken with the Primary Care Network in Nuneaton, Bedworth and Rural North to get posters displayed in GP surgeries and a further one at the Newtown Centre Blood Clinic
Cllr Chris Watkins, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said:
“It is imperative, especially with winter coming, that our residents realise they may be able to claim Pension Credit.
“This can give people extra money to help with living costs if they are over state pension age and on a low income.
“It can also help with housing costs including ground rent or service charges.’’
