Contracts have now been signed with construction company BAM Construction Limited and construction consultancy, Gleeds.
Work on the second phase of the Abbey Street project in Nuneaton town centre is well under way.
Cllr Chris Watkins, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said:
“The regeneration of Abbey Street is a fantastic development, not just for Nuneaton but for our entire borough.
“The project brings much needed jobs to the borough and will give us a town centre to be proud of.’’
Cllr Nicola King, Portfolio Holder for Business and Regeneration, said:
“It really is excellent to see that work is now under way on the second phase.
“We were delighted to see the opening of the Hampton by Hilton hotel last year as part of the project and these developments can only enhance our borough and bring more people into the town centre.’’
The second phase is part of the Transforming Nuneaton project, with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council working together to deliver the transformation of the town centre.
The Transforming Nuneaton project aims to deliver a mixed-use regeneration scheme that will provide Nuneaton with the economic boost it needs and provide new employment opportunities.
Investment in the town centre will help to improve:
- Leisure and business opportunities
- Education and skills
- Unlocking housing development
- Future rail, highway and cycle infrastructure
Transforming Nuneaton intends to develop exciting new opportunities within the town centre, using publicly owned land to help support growth.
The project will also work closely with private and public sector partners to ensure it meets the ambitions of the town while engaging with potential investors and developers who can help deliver this vision of change.
