Work is well under way transforming Buttermere Park in Nuneaton into a park for all ages.
The project sees the redevelopment of the existing play area to create spaces for younger and older children to play, relax, and interact with elements of nature.
It will also create a community space for people to enjoy surrounded by flowering cherry trees, wildflowers, and nature.
Another feature includes a network of footpaths to increase accessibility for wheelchairs, link together existing housing communities, and make navigating the new space easy.
The work is being carried out by Essex-based firm Ground Control, who successfully bid for the contract.
A spokesman for the firm said:
“Despite the unseasonably wet February, we are progressing well with the enhancement works at Buttermere Recreation Ground and are set to complete the works by early April.
“We have installed new footpaths to improve accessibility to the ground all year round, new street furniture including benches and bins, and new play areas for children of all ages and abilities.
“Following the completion of works, we will then proceed with environmental enhancements to improve biodiversity within the area, including wildflora seeding and installing bird, bat and insect boxes.”
The scheme is funded through section 106 contributions fees, which result from legal agreements between developers and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council specifically identified for increasing capacity at the site after housing growth.
Cllr Julian Gutteridge, Portfolio Holder for Health and Environment at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, who is involved in the project alongside St Nicolas ward councillors Rob Tromans and Jeff Clarke JP, who arranged for consultations with residents, said:
“We are really looking forward to this work being completed, unfortunately the recent weather which has seen huge downpours of rain have not been helpful to the work.
“But we are delighted to say that we will soon have another park in our borough that will be used by many of our residents and is something we can be proud of for years to come.’’
Cllr Clarke said:
"I welcome this play area upgrade and investment coming to our area along with the enhancements of the open space to provide access for all users, also all the new play equipment looks amazing.
“Hopefully, all residents can continue to enjoy this lovely area in the heart of the community for many more years."
