Miners' Welfare Park, Bedworth

Further preparatory work for the Bedworth Physical Activity Hub project will start on Tuesday, 28 May, at Miners’ Welfare Park.

Over a three-week period, additional tarmac paths will be installed within the park.

The paths will then, in due course, act as the temporary south-western access point and as the main circular route within the park for the construction period of the Hub.

By installing these temporary paths now in advance of the main works, the interruption to park users and park activities will be minimised when the main site works are planned later in the summer.

The contractors and the Council will seek to minimise any public disruption during the temporary path installation work.

This will involve some managed vehicle movements, fencing off some limited grassed areas in the main park for the path works, and a temporary closure of parts of the Black Bank railway line path nearest to the Black Bank pub, with an alternative entrance still available very nearby into the main park.

A small work compound will also be in place for the three-week duration of the work, sited near the Leisure Centre car park.

Cllr Tim Jenkins, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Communities and Health, said:

“The Council thanks residents for their tolerance and understanding during these works, which are essential for bringing a modern replacement for the old Leisure Centre to Bedworth.

“These works will minimise disruption to public use of the park when the main construction gets under way.

“An added bonus is that the section of improved path along the Black Bank railway route will be able to be retained after the Activity Hub is completed.

“This will provide a stable year-round surface that will form part of a future cycle path route to Hawkesbury.

“The cycle route will be delivered in the coming years using ‘planning gain’ sums from developers and will also include cycle paths provided by the housing development on the old golf course.”
