As part of the Creative Borough Summer Events Programme, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is delighted to announce Milesians: The Coming of The Gaels.

Circolombia and Imagineer, supported by Bedworth Civic Hall, local communities, and early career professional performers, have joined together to co-create Milesians.

The free spectacular takes place on Friday and Saturday, 28 and 29 June at 7:00pm and on Sunday, 30 June, at 2:00pm at All Saints Park, Bedworth on the grass area near Church Walk.

Milesians is a magical telling of an ancient myth rooted in both Galicia and Ireland, with the mortal Gaels facing the Tuatha Dé Danann, tribe of the gods, to determine Ireland’s fate in a compelling story.

This outdoor spectacle from Circolombia Contemporary Circus, in association with Imagineer Productions is created and directed by Felicity Simpson and Kathi Leahy.

It combines gravity defying circus, physical theatre, acrobatics, dance, dynamic music, and integrated British Sign Language, immersing the audience in an ancient magical world while reflecting universal themes of global migration and cultural co-existence.

Katie Memetovic-Bye, Assistant Director for Recreation and Culture at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Circolombia to the borough with an exciting project that involves professional contemporary circus artists, local early years professionals, and members of the local community as part of our Summer Events 2024 Programme.’’

Felicity Simpson, Artistic Director, Circolombia, said:

“We cannot wait to return to the mighty Midlands, with plenty of talent to explore, mix, match, and mash up. It’s going to be brilliant.’’

Kathi Leahy, Artistic Director, Milesians, said:

“We are excited to be working alongside such skilled and talented young people from the borough who will bring their creativity, passion, and energy to the telling of this story and the making of this outdoor spectacle.’’

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County CouncilArtichoke, and Imagineer have been supported by an Arts Council England Place Partnership Award to develop key projects through The Creative Explorers Project.

This has allowed local artists and residents to work with national and international artists, companies, and businesses over the past 12 months, to create a series of free cultural events with local, national, and international artists and companies.

These will celebrate the unique cultural identity and ambition of Nuneaton and Bedworth and build creative aspirations for the future.
