Excess cardboard and paper side waste

A small number of residents will have recently seen stickers placed on their excess cardboard that was not removed on their recycling day.

These new stickers are now being placed on items that are larger than the brown-lid bin itself.

It has been a long-standing policy to accept additional cardboard, and this was introduced due to the use of a caddy insert within the brown-lid bin, which restricted the amount of cardboard and paper that could be placed inside it.

The need to use the caddy insert was removed last year, and despite residents being able to place all their recyclable material into the main body of the brown-lid bin since then, the Council has continued to accept reasonable amounts of excess cardboard and paper.

The Council has now taken steps to enforce its policy of only taking reasonable amounts of excess cardboard and paper.

To ensure that operatives are able to safely collect the excess material, households must ensure that it is able to fit into their brown-lid bin.

Any excess cardboard will be placed inside the bin once it has been emptied of its original contents, which allows the operatives to safely dispose of its contents.

If the excess cardboard cannot fit in the bin, it is unable to be safely collected by the team.

The amount of bin capacity provided to the residents of Nuneaton and Bedworth is based on ensuring that the average household can manage their household waste correctly.

There are exceptions to this policy for large households, as we allow residents to purchase a second brown-lid bin.

Therefore, if residents are routinely finding they have more cardboard and paper than they can fit in their brown-lid bin, then they can choose to buy an additional one.
