As part of the summer programme of events, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is delighted to present Art on the Streets, produced by newly formed creative company GRIT Arts.

The dynamic and exciting programme of outdoor visual arts and performance created with local artists and communities from across the borough forms part of a Creative Borough Summer Events Programme.

This event takes place on Sunday 11, August, from 11:00am until 4:00pm in Nuneaton Town Centre and includes:  

  • Live mural art extravaganza in the town on a large scale curated by Nathan Parker
  • Hip Hop and Morris Dancing
  • Street sculptures, new commissions and installations by Escape Arts, Station Gallery etc
  • Mass graffiti arts installation by young people, Aspire in Art, and groups from Wembrook, Stockingford and Camphill
  • A new mural for Nuneaton Library unveiled on the day, designed by local young people, a collaboration with local artist Nathan Parker and Shout Out for the Arts
  • Outdoor performances by Nuneaton based theatre companies including Dauntless Evolution and Sudden Impulse
  • The launch of Convoy, an extraordinary artwork of scale created on lorries which will take the beauty and innovation in the borough to the world, designed and created by local artist Alisha Miller in collaboration with local businesses. 
  • Street food, crafts and stalls featuring Nuneaton and Bedworth artists and creative organisations

Cllr Tim Jenkins, Portfolio holder for Leisure, Communities and Health, said:

“We are extremely proud to be supporting new Nuneaton based, creative company GRIT Arts in the production of their first outdoor festival and the many local people, artists and companies who have taken part in the preparation for this event with them over the past nine months.

“There will be a lot for people to see and do and it will be very exciting to see Nuneaton town centre brimming with local creativity.

“We are excited to be supporting such skilled and talented people from the Borough who will bring their creativity, passion and energy to this outdoor festival.’’

“We cannot wait to showcase the work we have made with local people. There is so much talent and passion for the arts in these towns, especially amongst its young people.

“We hope we will capture the spirit and ambition of Nuneaton and Bedworth now and continue the quiet cultural revolution going forwards.’’ 

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council, Artichoke, and Imagineer have been supported by an Arts Council England Place Partnership Award to develop key projects through The Creative Explorers Project.

This has enabled local artists and residents to work with national and international artists, companies, and businesses over the past 12 months.

This is creating a series of events which celebrate the unique cultural identity and ambition of Nuneaton and Bedworth and builds creative aspirations for the future.
