Essential preparation work ahead of construction starting at Bedworth Physical Activity Hub has begun at the Coventry Road site and will give the borough a facility to be proud of.

Recent and planned work includes:

  • A new tarmac footpath was built so Miners’ Welfare Park users can continue to use the park while the leisure centre is constructed
  • During August and September, fencing will be built around part of the park to protect trees and create the building works area for the contractors, with public access then moving onto the newly created paths
  • The contractor’s welfare facilities will also arrive on site
  • Once these works are completed, a new haul road will be formed, ready for material and construction plant deliveries
  • Earthworks will start, making the area a suitable height and level to prepare it to be built on
  • The current gym equipment will be removed and put into storage, ready for when it is reinstated later in the project
  • A digital newsletter will shortly be issued showing the progress made at the site and the communication boards at the site updated

Cllr Tim Jenkins, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Communities, and Health, said:

“We are delighted that this vital preparation work is going well at the site.

“Our Borough will soon have a superb physical activity hub to be proud of, with something for everyone.’’

The Hub will feature a four-court sports hall, a health and fitness suite, spin and fitness studios, an eight-lane 25-metre pool, and a learner pool.

External features include an all-wheel skate park, a learn-to-ride facility, and a 9v9 all-weather football pitch.

The facility is scheduled to be open in the autumn of next year, 2025, with the full development due to be completed in early summer 2026.
