Limit on benefits
The overall amount of benefit you can receive is capped. The Government will calculate how much money you get from a range of benefits, including: housing benefit, jobseeker's allowance, employment support allowance, child benefit, child tax credit and carer's allowance.
If the total comes to more than the maximum amount allowed, your housing benefit payments will be reduced.
The maximum amount of benefit you will be able to receive will be:
- £423.46 per week for single parents
- £423.46 per week for couples with or without children
- £283.71 per week for single people without children
This will not apply to you if:
- You are of state pension age
- You are in receipt or entitled to working tax credit
- A household member is in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment
- You are in receipt of Industrial Injuries Benefit, War Pension or ESA with the support component
