Types of civic awards
Honours which can be bestowed by the Council include:
Nuneaton and Bedworth Award of Merit
This community award is to reward those who have served Nuneaton and Bedworth with distinction. Any member of the public may nominate any other member of the public for this award
Naming of streets or public places
Streets have been named in the Borough for particularly meritorious service to the country. Recent examples have included servants of the Armed Forces and monarchs
- Jubilee Way, Nuneaton, (formerly Roanne Ringway) was renamed to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022
- Sergeant Simon Valentine Way, Bedworth, (formerly a section of Rye Piece Ringway) was renamed in honour of Sergeant Simon Valentine in 2023
Honorary Alderman or Honorary Alderwoman
The Council may confer the title of Honorary Alderman or Honorary Alderwoman on any former councillor who, in the opinion of the Council, has rendered eminent services to the Authority.
The Mayoral Award
At the discretion of the Mayor without referral to the Sub-Committee.
Freedom of the Borough
The Freedom of the Borough has been extended to people and bodies whose service to the Borough is singularly notable.
Freedom of Entry to the Borough
Freedom of Entry is granted to military bodies as ceremonial recognition of their role in defending the realm.
